API5CT Steel Pipe
What is API 5CT
Steel Pipe?
Conceptually, API
5CT does not refer to a single, specific model of steel pipe. Instead, it
refers to Specification 5CT—"Specification for Casing and
Tubing"—published by the American Petroleum Institute (API).
Therefore, API
5CT steel pipe refers to any steel pipe that fully complies with the API
5CT standard, specifically designed for downhole operations in oil and
natural gas wells.
Core Products: It primarily includes two
main categories:
1.    Casing: Larger-diameter pipe that
is run into the wellbore and cemented in place. It is used to support the well
wall, prevent its collapse, and isolate different geological formations.
2.    Tubing: Relatively
smaller-diameter pipe that is located inside the casing. It serves as the
primary conduit for oil and gas to travel from the underground reservoir to the
surface.
Purpose: To ensure the pipe has
sufficient strength, toughness, and sealing integrity to withstand the
high-temperature, high-pressure, and often corrosive downhole environments of
geological operations.
o
The
API 5CT standard classifies pipes into different steel grades
based on their yield strength, tensile strength, and chemical composition.
o
These
grades are the primary basis for distinguishing their performance and
application. Common grades include: J55, K55,
N80 (N80-1, N80Q), L80 (L80-1, L80-9Cr, L80-13Cr), P110, Q125,
etc.
o
For
example, API 5CT J55 is one of the most common grades for both casing
and tubing, while L80 is often used in sour (corrosive) service environments.
In short: API
5CT pipe is the "structural skeleton" and "transport
artery" of oil and gas drilling, and its production and inspection must
strictly adhere to the API 5CT standard.
